Shipping zones and carriers

Last updated: April 2026

Shipping settings live at Settings → Shipping & Fulfillment (/dashboard/settings/shipping). They control how the storefront quotes rates to buyers and which carrier defaults load when you buy a label on an order. /dashboard/shipping is the separate shipments inbox + new-shipment wizard for individual label purchases.

Default carrier and service

  • Default carrier — USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, or Canada Post
  • Default service level — Ground, 2-day, Overnight, etc.
  • Default package type — box, envelope, or custom dimensions
  • Default package dimensions and weight — pre-fills the label form on every order

Package defaults by product

Every product has optional weight and dimensions on its detail page. When set, they override the global package defaults for orders containing that product. Mixed orders fall back to the global default — adjust manually before buying the label if needed.

Shipping zones

Define zones as country groups or regions. Each zone has its own rate rules — typical setups:

  • Domestic US — flat $9.99, free over $100
  • Canada — flat $15
  • International — disabled entirely, or $40 flat to a short allowlist

How rates are quoted at checkout

The storefront queries ShipEngine live for every checkout. Zones give the buyer an instant fallback rate, but ShipEngine returns carrier-specific rates based on the destination ZIP, package weight, and your negotiated rate table. The buyer sees the best match of your zone rule + ShipEngine quote.

Free shipping threshold

Set a per-zone order subtotal above which shipping is free. The checkout shows buyers how far they are from the threshold ("Add $12 for free shipping") to encourage basket-size bump.

Signature-required threshold

Orders above a configurable amount (default $500) auto-select Signature Required on label purchase. This protects you against delivery-dispute chargebacks on high-value orders.

NOTE

If a zone is disabled, buyers in that zone see "We don't ship to your region" at checkout and the Place Order button is blocked. Enable the zone with even a placeholder rate if you want to take the order and quote shipping manually after.

Shipping invoices and label receipts

Techfleet Sync buys your labels from ShipEngine on a platform-owned account, applies your configured markup, and charges you. You won't get an invoice from ShipEngine directly — you get them from Techfleet. Two places to find them:

  1. Settings → Billing → Shipping Charges. Month-to-date + lifetime totals, plus a 90-day list of every label with cost, charged amount, and status. Export CSV for the full history.
  2. Each label gets a dedicated receipt PDF. Download from the Shipping Charges list or from /dashboard/shipping directly — click the receipt icon on any shipment row.

The receipt shows your merchant info, shipment details (tracking, carrier, service, package dims), and the charge breakdown (carrier cost, platform fee, total). Use it for accounting reconciliation — the per-line totals match what Techfleet deducts from your account.

Per-product package dimensions

Every product has optional Weight / Length / Width / Height fields on its detail page (Inventory → pick a product → Shipping dimensions section). Set them per SKU and the Buy Label modal auto-fills from those values instead of your global defaults — rate quotes stay accurate even when you ship very different form factors.

  1. Open a product → scroll to Shipping dimensions
  2. Click Edit → enter weight in oz and length/width/height in inches
  3. Or click "Fill from category" to load a device preset (smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc.)
  4. Save — the values now drive rate shopping for every order containing that product
NOTE

Product dims are also importable via the bulk CSV at Add Product → Bulk import from CSV. Columns: weight_oz, length_in, width_in, height_in.

Overriding dimensions on a specific order

The Buy Label modal has an expandable Package details section. Pre-filled from product dims (if set) or device presets (from the first line item category), but you can edit freely. Click Re-quote after changing values to fetch fresh rates. The dims you used are stamped on the shipment receipt for audit.
